Accessing Your IM History

If you are signed on to Meebo Messenger using your Meebo ID, every time you have a conversation with a buddy, a chat log can be created. Anywhere you can access Meebo Messenger, you can access your chat logs to view an search your full conversation history with any buddy.

You can open your chat logs with a buddy in two ways:

1. Right-click the buddy in the Buddy List and select View Chat Log.
2. Click the Chat Logs button in an open conversation window.

The Chat Log Window

When the chat log window opens, you will see the most recent conversation you had with this buddy. You can use this window to:

• Browse through all conversations you've had with this buddy using the browsing tools in the top-right corner.
• Search for a word or phrase in this chat log by typing a word or phrase into the Find box and pressing enter. The search function will search for the entire string (including spaces) and it is case-sensitive. Press enter again to find the next occurrence of the string. The search starts with the current log and proceeds forward, looping back to log 1 after reaching the end.
• Turn chat logging on and off for this buddy by clicking the IM History button. See below for more information about enabling and disabling chat logging.
• Delete your entire chat history with this buddy by clicking Delete All. You will see a warning message that asks you to confirm the deletion. This will delete your entire conversation history with this buddy.

Enabling and Disabling Chat Logging

You can enable/disable chat logging for a single buddy or all of Meebo Messenger. Within a conversation window, the Chat Logs button indicates whether the current conversation is being logged:

This icon indicates that the current conversation is being logged.

This icon indicates that the current conversation is not being logged.

To enable or disable chat logging for a single buddy:

1. Open a chat log for that buddy as described above.
2. Click the IM History On/IM History Off button to toggle chat logging for this buddy.

To enable or disable chat logging for all of Meebo Messenger:

1. Click Preferences at the top of the interface and then select IM Settings. The IM Settings dialog opens.
2. Set or clear the Enable IM history option to turn chat logging on and off. This option is only available if you have logged in to Meebo Messenger using a Meebo ID.

Note:If you disable chat logging for your entire account, you cannot enable it for specific users.

How do I view the chat logs for my group chat?

Chat logs for group chats are not available at this time.

I can't view my chat logs or get an error message when I try, even though I was able to before.

If you're having problems viewing your chat logs, please try the following:

1. It may be necessary to clear your cache and refresh your page.
2. If your chat logs are very large, Firefox users may not be able to access them. try using Internet Explorer or Safari instead.
