Preferences
You can access settings that will effect Meebo Messenger's appearance and behavior by clicking Preferences at the top of the page and selecting one of the following sets of preferences. Any preferences you set will stay with you if you sign in from a different computer or browser.
Appearance
The Appearance preferences allow you to change the background color or image you will see when you sign on to Meebo Messenger. You can choose either an image or a background color.
- To choose an image click the drop-down list to view the available image categories and use the left and right buttons to browse through the images in that category. Click on an image to use it as your background.
Note:The companies who advertise with Meebo often provide background images for people to use. You can see the current advertiser's custom background by hovering over the ad at the bottom of the page. Click Set as my meebo wallpaper to use the ad's image for your background. - To choose a background color, select one of the color squares from along the bottom of the Appearance window. If there is currently an image selected, click clear image to remove it so you can see the color you selected.
IM Settings
The IM Settings preferences allow you to change some aspects of the behavior of Meebo Messenger. You can set the following options:
- Play a Sound - Set these options to determine if sounds are played when sending and receiving messages. If the sound is muted using the speaker icon on the Meebo Messenger interface, no sounds will play regardless of how these options are set.
- Enable IM History - Set this option to turn on chat logs. You can disable chat logs for individual buddies even if this option is set. See Chat Logs for more information.
- Only receive messages from friends - Set this options to block IM messages from anyone other than people on your Buddy List. You will still see buddy requests from people who are not on the list, but all other messages will be blocked. If you do not set this option, you can still block individual users as described in Removing and Blocking Buddies.
- Show emoticons in IM message - Set this option to have Meebo emoticons appear in your sent and received chats. Clear this option to see only text.
Account Settings
The Account Settings window contains the following information:
- Username - Your Meebo ID. This is the name other Meebo users will see when you have a conversation with them. You cannot change your ID.
- email - The email address associated with your Meebo ID. If you forget your password, this is the email address we will send it to when you click forgot password. This is also the address we will use if we need to contact you for any reason.
- password - You can use the three password fields to change your Meebo password. Enter the new password in new password and confirm password, enter your old password in the current password field, and then click Submit to change your password.
- delete my account - Click this text to open the delete account page. This page allows you to delete your Meebo ID.
