Removing and Blocking Buddies

You can use the Buddy List to remove or block buddies. If you remove a buddy, they will no longer appear in your Buddy List. They will still be able to start a conversation with you unless you have set the Only receive messages from friends option as described under Preferences. If you block a buddy, they will be prevented from sending you messages until you unblock them.

Removing a Buddy

If you don't want to see a buddy on your Buddy List anymore, you can remove them in one of two ways:

  • Right click the buddy you want to remove and select Remove (Buddy Name) from the drop-down menu.
  • Click the remove buddy icon at the top of the Buddy List after selecting a buddy.

In either case you will see a dialog asking you to confirm that you wish to remove this buddy. Click Remove to remove that buddy from the list. If you change your mind, you can always add them again as described above.

Blocking a Buddy

There are two ways to block a buddy:

  • Within a conversation. If you have an open conversation window with someone who is not on your Buddy List, you can click the Block Buddy icon to block them. See Managing Conversations for more information.
  • From the Buddy List. Right click the buddy's name and select Block (buddy name) from the drop-down menu. Depending on what network they are on, the blocked user will either be removed from the Buddy List entirely or moved to the Offline group and grayed out.

To unblock a buddy, you can either add them (if they were removed from or were never on your Buddy List), or right-click them and select Unblock (buddy name) (if they were moved to the Offline group after being blocked.
